(with a lot of other really weird Gregorian chant stuff)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This sounds rather like a MasterChef recipe, but I couldn&#8217;t quite resist.\u00a0 I was in a bit of a silly mood the other day, and went a-Googling to try to capture a memory of some Gregorian chant I remembered from the 1980s or 1990s which had, if I recall correctly, a disco beat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">I didn&#8217;t find it (so far &#8211; the quest continues.\u00a0 I do know it wasn&#8217;t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FfRAiTtOVEY\">Enigma<\/a>, though I had forgotten about them, and it was fun to be reminded).\u00a0 But I did find ever so many other things that people have done to Gregorian chant.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MgHclJGCOPY\">Some of them are sillier than others<\/a>.\u00a0 And I&#8217;m amused that there is an entire band that does Gregorian style covers of everything from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=raRaxt_KM9Q\">Simon and Garfunkel<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZL8LEc9H7hs\">Rammstein<\/a> (I am not fully convinced of their actual Gregorianishness, but again, points for silliness, and they certainly sound gorgeous.).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Oh, my, and then there&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_JHUXjnX7U4\">this<\/a>, which is kind of both awful and amazing and has everything.\u00a0 And I do mean everything.\u00a0 Including the stuff you wish it didn&#8217;t have.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">&#8230; I get the feeling that I&#8217;ve just discovered one of those internet rabbit holes from which there is no escaping&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><em>Anyway<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">I found this rather gorgeous jazz remix of Dies Irae, which is filling Andrew with such joy that I really had to post it.\u00a0 So here it is.<\/p>\n<p>[youtube=http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Npj9Zj4djts&#038;w=420&#038;h=315]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Isn&#8217;t it stunning?\u00a0 I love the Carmina Burana-like start, and all the brass, and then the walking bass in the piano and the movement into polyphony at the end.
